1 Click Print (for Bambu Lab printers)

When you purchase a digital climbing hold set, you’ll receive a file package ready to go.

Simply open the pre-configured 3MF file in Bambu Studio, hit Slice & Print, and let the printer do the rest. Your holds will come out of the printer ready to bolt on the wall and climb.

Non Bambu / Manual Slicer Settings

For best resultsgym-tested quality and a foolproof, automated setup — always use the official Open Holds slicing preset (available for download).

  • Make sure you are using the latest version of the preset for optimal results.
  • Always place the bottom (mounting face) of the hold flat on the bed when slicing.

Manual Setup (if not using the official preset):

Material:

  • Use your printer’s default PETG-CF material profile.

Print Settings:

  • Base Preset: start from “0.2 mm Strength” in Bambu Studio.
  • Wall Generation: Arachne wall engine.
  • Outer Walls: 8 perimeters.
  • Top Surface: Concentric top wall pattern.
  • Shell Thickness: 3 mm top & bottom.
  • Infill: 25% grid.
  • Texture: Enable Fuzzy Skin on selected climbing faces only
    Point distance: 0.5 mm
    Thickness: 0.5 mm

Material

To get professional-grade climbing holds — both in friction and strength — you must use PETG-CF (carbon-fiber reinforced PETG).

PLA
❌ Weak & brittle
❌ Slippery surface
❌ Not safe for climbing

PETG
✅ Stronger than PLA
❌ Still slippery
⚠️ Limited use

PETG-CF
✅ High strength
✅ High friction
✅ Recommended for climbing

Nozzle & Printer Setup

  • Always use a hardened steel nozzle
  • Carbon fiber is abrasive and will quickly wear out brass or stainless nozzles.
  • A 0.4 mm or 0.6 mm nozzle works fine. Larger nozzles = faster prints.
  • Closed-chamber printing is recommended (stable temperature improves layer bonding), but open printers also work with PETG-CF.
Filament Storage

PETG-CF is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture, which weakens prints and causes surface defects.

  • Store spools in a sealed bag or dry box.
  • Always include fresh desiccant packs.
  • If filament has been exposed, dry it before printing for best results.

Printer Recommendations

Open Holds officially supports Bambu Lab printers, but the files will work on any capable 3D printer. Below are three recommended setups depending on your budget and needs:

1. Bambu Lab A1 Mini + Hardened Nozzle

Barebone Setup – Minimal Cost, Pro Results

  • ✅ Professional results at lowest cost
  • ✅ Compact and beginner-friendly
  • ❌ Small build plate (limited hold sizes)
  • ❌ No heated chamber → slightly weaker layer bonding
  • ❌ No filament storage or humidity control → requires manual care (keep PETG-CF sealed and dry)

2. Bambu Lab P1S + Hardened Nozzle + AMS 2

Middle Ground – Balanced Power

  • ✅ Large build plate → bigger holds, more flexibility
  • ✅ Heated chamber → stronger parts, more reliable
  • ✅ AMS 2 for auto filament feed + built-in humidity control
  • ✅ Faster print speeds
  • ⚠️ Higher upfront cost vs A1 Mini

3. Bambu Lab H2D / H2S + Hardened Nozzle + AMS 2

Best of the Best – Full Power Setup

  • ✅ All the benefits of the P1S setup
  • ✅ Even larger build plate → massive holds possible
  • ✅ Faster & more efficient for high-volume printing
  • ✅ Professional-grade, future-proof setup for gyms or dedicated makers
  • ⚠️ Premium price
